Alcohol/Substance Abuse Services

Substance Abuse Program for Adults
Accredited by Joint Commission, NorthEast Psychiatric Services Outpatient Program (IOP) for Substance Abuse offers a licensed continuum of care to the chemically dependent individual seeking recovery. Our programs provide each person with the opportunity for balanced sober living through education, awareness and self-discovery.
Tailored Treatment Programs
Intensive Outpatient Treatment is offered to adults/adolescents with chemical dependency or addiction problems who meet criteria for outpatient services.

Intermediate Outpatient Treatment is designed for adults/adolescents who are experiencing significant problems as a result of their chemical use.

Short-term Outpatient Treatment is for adults/adolescents just beginning to experience problems with alcohol and/or other drugs.

Assessments and Admissions
Patients can be seen the day of their initial contact. Referrals are accepted from employee assistance programs, private therapists, physicians, court officials, social workers, insurance companies, self-referrals, and friends or family members.

Confidential Consultation
We offer an initial consultation, without further obligation, to discuss symptoms and to determine if treatment is advisable. If the need for treatment is established then a recommendation regarding the appropriate level of care will be made.

Interventions
In cases where the individual is reluctant to get help, we can help family, friends or employers conduct an intervention, confronting the dependent person with the reality of his/her addiction and the need for treatment.

Treatment Philosophy
Alcoholism and other drug dependencies are treatable diseases with physical, behavioral, psychological, social, and spiritual components which impair normal functioning. The illness affects the entire family.

Our treatment programs are based on the 12-step philosophies and focus on personal growth in recovery. Successful recovery is enhanced with several changes, including increased self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, improvement in family interaction, vocational productivity, the establishment and attainment of realistic goals in life and a healthy lifestyle adjustment. The main goal of NorthEast Psychiatric Services IOP is to restore the individual to a healthier, happier, more productive life, free from dependence on addictive chemicals and destructive behaviors.

Warning Signs of Chemical Dependency
As with any disease, the earlier the detection, the greater the chance of successful treatment. Warning signs of chemical dependency often include:
  • Rapid, unexplained changes in mood
  • Changes in job or school performance
  • Unexplained changes in eating or sleeping patterns
  • Dishonesty or stealing
  • Loss of old friends; new friends known to drink or use drugs
  • Neglect of personal appearance
  • Suicidal actions or threats
  • Increased drinking or use of other drugs
  • Blackout periods, or temporary memory loss
